The question is whether the food industry, including manufacturers and suppliers, and purchasing and supply chain teams in particular, is sufficiently aware of supply issues and acting on them. The recent Anuga food fair in Cologne provides a useful indication. Thousands of buyers, suppliers and service providers meet at Europe’s largest food and beverage trade fair. One of them is Egemen Levent, managing director of LVNT Logistics.

According to Levent, climate change and its impact on agriculture were not a main topic. “Changing harvest seasons were discussed. They have major consequences for logistics and storage because the supply of fresh products is becoming less predictable.” Food prices, and especially increasing volatility and sharp price rises, were also discussed at the fair. “That directly affects the cost of living and can influence access to good food,” Levent said.
